FT2: Journey Through the Ouachitas

Dr. Zach Fleming will take a group through the Ouachita Mountains to explore the unique geology of the Arkansas region. This trip will have stops along some great areas within the Benton Uplift of the Ouachita Mountains, AR. 

Highlights of the Trip: 

• Day 1: We will start with a brief stroll through historical Hot Springs before heading off to investigate some structures within the Brady Mountain area. 
• Day 2: We will begin with a look at the Blakely Dam where fantastic folds and cleavages of the Ouachita Orogeny are exposed. After that we will explore a quarry exposure of the Bigfork Chert, again displaying folds from the orogeny. Here we will collect imagery and create some ad-hoc Virtual Outcrop Models (VOMs) to highlight bringing together technology and field work.
